Ms. F's Scholarships - Apply Senior Year Starting in October-May

Scholarships - Apply Senior Year Starting in October-May

STEPS TO FOLLOW:
*Complete the Terry application (attached to this post) Jr. Year & have your English teacher help edited it for you (most of the questions and prompts can be re-used in other scholarship applications)

*Write essay prompts Jr. Year & have your English teacher help you edit them so they will be ready to go when it is time to submit them (way less stress this way!)

*Keep a spreadsheet to keep yourself on-track, documenting the date you apply or mail it & if you received the scholarship or were denied

*Keep a folder on computer & flash drive clearly named to stay organized (some prompts & questions may be the same so you can reuse these)

*Check your counselor's office at your school frequently to see what scholarships they have

*If on free or reduced lunch check your counselor's office for fee waivers for SAT, ACT & college applications

*If not on free or reduced lunch but have a household income of less than $100,000 use this fee waiver http://www.nacacnet.org/studentinfo/feewaiver/Documents/ApplicationFeeWaiver.pdf

*Make sure you include ALL REQUIRED INFORMATION & DOCUMENTS & WRITTEN ESSAYS OR PROMPTS

*Go visit your college scholarship & aid site & make sure you apply for all they have (they will also have links to outside scholarships)

*No matter what income you have you must fill out the government aid site fafsa.ed.gov  by the end of March Senior year [you will need your social, parents' socials (if divorced, widowed or single pick 1), birth dates, marriage or divorce dates & tax information (W2s & 1040s)].
  • NOTE: If you or your parents do not have socials you will need to contact the college's financial aid office (they have special forms for you-do not give up, there is a way!).  local colleges have aid workshops to help you.
  • For Texas with no social check out http://www.finaid.txstate.edu/more-info/TASFA.html
  • For California check out http://www.csac.ca.gov/dream_act.asp
  • For undocumented scholarships go to http://www.10000degrees.org/students/scholarships/undocumented-students/

*If going to a private school or Ivy League fill out the CSS Profile & apply to school by Nov. Senior Year & check emails in Jan-Feb to complete the IDOC that goes with it (undocumented may qualify)

  2. Official school stamped transcripts
  3. Most Recent Report Card
  4. Wallet sized photo of shoulders up
